So I started my entrepreneurship career with a service company and I've scaled it into a multi seven-figure engineering service company within a very short time.

While doing so, I made a lot of mistakes.

I focused on the wrong thing.

I went along the wrong path and I learned the hard way.

Here are three things I often see and these are the mistakes I've made myself.

But I still see that a lot of companies are making them.

Mistake number 1: Selling a bunch of keywords.

I get tons of emails talking about the technologies they offer.

They say they do DevOps, they say they do .NET, they say they do Python, Java, whatnot.

They write down 30 programming words and they say that they're doing them.

 

Now, the point is, people don't understand it.

Nobody wants to have .NET or Java or Angular or Python.

When a bank is hiring, the bank doesn't care about Java, they don't care about C#, they don't care about .NET, they don't care about anything.

What they care about is the result.

It's just like the metaphor sales people used to give.

Nobody wants to have a vacuum cleaner, but everybody wants a clean room.

Now, if you want to talk about how cool your vacuum cleaner is, nobody is interested.

People are interested in the end result.

Going back to the bank example, they are interested in a certain result and not in .NET and all those.

Of course, people look for .NET developers, but this is where we're actually not seeing the end game.

The people are not looking at the entire picture.

What's your expertise? What is the solution that you provide?

Mistake number 2: Focusing on price.

Companies from top countries write me emails and immediately, they go and talk about pricing.

And when you're talking about pricing, you're actually talking about a commodity.

And when you're talking about a commodity, we all know that your price will have to go totally towards zero if you want to survive in a commodity market.

That is not a very good business model.

Mistake number 3: Offering hourly rate.

Again, nobody is a customer.

If I want to have an app, I don't really care about how many hours you take.

I care about how much it costs for me, the package price.

Instead of offering an engineering solution, they are giving the time, they're selling the time.

I've learned from these mistakes and I have the blueprint to help others make it right.

I have gathered so much experience from my long years of experience, from 2005 during my first entrepreneurship, all the way to 2013 when I founded Matrickz.

And let me tell you, there is no safer business than that.

Be it an ecommerce business, be it SaaS business, there's always a risk of whether customers will accept your product or not.

But being a service provider, you'll always make some money.

There's always service needed and there is no upfront investment required so you're not risking anything, you're only making money.

You're bootstrapping your entire company, no external cash injection required.
